A Lighted Christmas Basket

2

December 22, 2013 by Terry

A few weeks earlier a good friend and co-worker mentioned that she wanted to make a special gift for one of the doctors in the clinic.  This lady doctor had collected some large pine cones on one of her holidays and my friend thought it would be nice to make her a lighted basket for Christmas using them.  She had also wanted to use a basket that one of the long time patients of this doctor had given  to her filled with thoughtful goodies.

So we did a little brain storming and gathered a few things that we thought would look nice in it.  I took it home not quite solid on what I would put together but the more I played around….the better it turned out!

IMG_2248I started out by hot gluing some left over fabric ( from upholstering the couch and chair I showed you in previous posts) to the basket.  I let the edges be frayed and pleated it so it would look nice and ruffled.  I layered it as well to give it a little extra cute!  To cover the edges at the top of the basket I used some thin rope and went around the basket two times.  The rope and the look of the fabric gives it a bit of a rustic feel.IMG_2239I placed some greenery and the pine cones in the basket bending the branches around the pine cones and gluing them in place as I went.  Before I placed the greenery and pine cones in, I had made a little hole in the bottom of the basket in order to thread the white lights through to conceal the plug in end of the lights.  I also used some greenery with a slight shimmer of glitter on the leaves.  This gives it some sparkle even when the lights aren’t turned on.

IMG_2249I added a drift wood star for visual interest and it is in keeping with the natural rustic style of the arrangement. I love this star!

IMG_2240IMG_2238I love how this little basket came together…It’s special in that it was handpicked…by more than one person…my co worker, the patient, the doctor…and by me!  I know it will be enjoyed for years to come :0)

IMG_2234IMG_2247I really love the way it looked in my home as well….I might need to make another one for my own family.  I know it has a good home where it is though.  :0)

Merry Christmas every one!  God’s richest blessings to you all!

Smiles!

Terry
