Stenciled Dresser
16February 6, 2014 by Terry
I follow a blog that is all about stencils and the art of stenciling. They have so many great ideas on the thousands of ways to use stencils. Remember when stenciling boarders of grape vines all over in your kitchen or other rooms was all the rage back in the 90’s? I think I had some myself… what was I thinking? But then again peach and hunter green were “my colors” back then too…
Any ways… stenciling has really become a cool thing if done right in the right place or on the right thing. The blog I have been following is called Cutting Edge Stencils, you can spend hours upon hours going through their posts looking at all the amazing things they do with stencils, they even give tutorials.
I started by giving the whole thing a coat of white spray paint to give it a freshening. Then I gave just the drawer fronts 2 coats of navy blue spray paint. After some dry time I started the stenciling process. I used some painters tape to hold the stencil in place (I was too thrifty to spend money on the adhesive..wasn’t in the budget…) I think next time I would invest in the adhesive as I did get a bit of a bleed on the edges of the design. This did not make my experience enjoyable as I had to go back with a fine brush and fix some edges on the design….anyhooo…here she is all done!
Rather retro feeling if I do say so…. Not really my style but it is good to step out of the box sometimes
After looking at it for a bit, I decided that I would add a white strip down the front…not sure if that was a good idea but it still looks okay…..still not my style but I wasn’t keeping it for my home… This piece belongs in a funky teenage bedroom!
Lets just say that while I like the results, stenciling is not my “gift”… It was my first try on furniture and it is more difficult than I had thought it would be! Those girls from Cutting Edge Stencils make it look super simple..I guess as with anything, practice does make perfect…maybe someday I will try again :0)!
Take care!

This is beautiful! I love that you did not do the stencil across the entire drawer fronts. It makes it even more interesting and creative!
