Here is a recap of the look I am going for…

Here is what I had to work with…. Sorry but this is the only “before” pic I have.  See the legs?  I thought I would strip off the varnish and stain for the raw wood look but…. turns out they weren’t real wood after all even though I was POSITIVE they were.  I had placed them in a tall container with Paint Stripper in it, walked away for a while and when I returned they were literally pencil thin, completely dissolved!!!!  Now what was I going to do without legs???

I was going to go look for new legs at Windsor Plywood Building Supply store early this morning after the kids were off to school.  At 6:30 am I sent my sweet husband off to work and went to wake the kids…all of a sudden my husband was back telling me to come and see something quickly with him up the street.  I was in my jammies and house coat but hopped in his truck anyways.  We turned the corner at the end of the street and part ways up the road on the curbside was a wing back chair that someone was throwing out…I could hardly believe my eyes when I saw the awesome legs on it!!!  Perfect for the chair I already had 3/4 finished!  Hubby loaded it up and brought it home.  The chair itself is in perfect condition, it just had really ugly material on it.  This certainly was my lucky day!!  Anyways…here she is in all her deconstructed style…

Once I had the chair all apart (I kept the cotton padding as much intact as possible) I then stained the raw frame with Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint in the color Curio.  I mixed it super runny so it acted like a stain instead of giving full coverage.  I followed this with a generous coat of Hemp Oil that I let sit on the wood and soak in for a few hours before wiping smooth.  The legs got the same treatment after I stripped the old varnish and stain from them…. WHEW REAL WOOD this time!

The rest was covered in drop cloth fabric and burlap giving it beautiful texture accented with nail heads.I let some of the cotton poke out here and there for added visual interest.  Same with the frame, where the cotton was stapled to it and then removed I allowed some of it to stay and didn’t pick it off when I was taking it apart…I did this the same as the ones  the Restoration Hardware catalog shows.Well… I am completely in love with the way this turned out!  The pictures do not do it justice at all… there’s way more detail when you look at it in person.  I wanted to experiment with imitating the style before moving on to completing the French Sofa I have apart, I want to do the same thing to it.

I’m excited to get started on it soon.  I work all week now starting tomorrow so it won’t be happening anytime soon…but do stay tuned for that makeover!  This wing back chair went to live in my booth at the Old Creamery antique store….I hope someone loves her as much as I!
