A Festive Tool Caddy
4December 19, 2014 by Terry
This tool caddy was one of my finds this past summer. It was in fairly rough shape with many water stains showing on the sides.
When decorating the house for Christmas I thought how nice it would look with some fresh greens in it.
I decided to give this caddy a little sprucing up for Christmas.
I decided to use Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint for the project. I had only a few teaspoons left of each color so I thought I’d mix them all together to create a new shade and make use of the small left overs…
After mixing them all together I did a little test spot on the tool caddy to see how the color would dry.
I found it to be a little too bright, so I added a few teaspoons of Typewriter that I already had mixed up for another project. For those of you not familiar with Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint, the color Typewriter is a flat black color.
Adding Typewriter to the mixture greyed it up a little and gave it more of a gritty tone turning it from “institutional” green to a pretty “vintage” green.
It looks so delicious! Reminds me a bit of pistachio pudding! (don’t worry… I won’t be tasting it! lol … but it does look yummy!)
So… fast forward to the finished product…
I gave it a light sanding and allowed the milk paint to chip off naturally. Then I finished it with Hemp Oil rather than wax as I might eventually use it outside in the summer and I don’t want the heat to melt the wax.
I filled it with some real pine branches from my neighbor’s yard (yes, I asked first!) and added a few faux berries that I had left over from a banner I made. (I will share that with you later…)
I love the look, smell and cozy feel fresh greens bring to a room.
I quite like the new look of this tool caddy. It looks fresh and adds a bit of color and character to my living room with it’s chippy paint.
I have to admit that December has flown by for me at the speed of light this year! I am not even close to finishing my shopping and the shortbread cookies seem to disappear as fast as they come out of the oven!
Hopefully I will get my act together in time :)
Wishing you a calm, relaxed weekend with family and friends!
Smiles!

Really really pretty- and who would have thought about the wax melting in the heat? Not me! But YOU did.

Well you know how I like to move things around! There’s no guarantee that anything will be solely kept for indoor use! I read once on the MMS website that one should only use wax on pieces that will not be exposed to excessive heat or sun or it melts! I can’t take credit for just thinking of it myself… :( ! But thank you for thinking I’m a smarty pants! :)
Smiles!
