Antiqued Linen French Country China Cabinet …

For some reason Antiqued Linen Milk Paint seems to be my “thing” lately!  I have now done three pieces in it and it seems to be the most requested color when it comes to doing custom painting for clients.  I really don’t mind though as it is also a favorite of mine.

It doesn’t matter what piece you put this finish on it always turns out beautiful!

This very grand piece was brought to me with the request that it be finished in Linen Milk Paint with antiquing wax.  The owners also requested that the inside of the hutch remain it’s original dark brown.

This piece started out with a good sanding followed by a thorough wipe down with a clean damp cloth to remove the dust.

Next I mixed up a full bag of milk paint in the color Linen adding bonding agent to it once it had time to dissolve thoroughly.  I added the bonding agent as I did not want to risk the paint becoming chippy.  While I love chippy paint, it just did not seem to suit this piece.

I gave the entire piece 2 coats of paint allowing the first coat to dry overnight.  When using the bonding agent you should allow it to dry for at least a minimum of 2 hours before applying a second coat of paint.

I gave it a light sanding between coats of paint as well just to remove any little lumps and bumps and bits that didn’t quite dissolve.

After the final sanding and a light distressing, I went over the entire piece with Miss Mustard Seed’s Dark Antiquing Wax.  I used a wax brush to apply it and a soft rag to wipe away any excess and rub it into the paint.

The result is a beautiful smooth finish!  It looks like it is a piece painted many years ago with aging patina … antiquing wax really changes the look of a piece getting into all the nooks and crannies and brings out the natural texture.  I just loooove patina, it gives everything a sense of history and character!

This piece also received new hardware which along with the paint has brought it out of the 80’s and given it that rustic old French Country Chic feel.  It used to have tarnished brass hardware.  I like that the new hardware “grounds” the piece and ties in with the dark colored interior.  It seems to suit the style better as well.

Yet another piece I wish was mine to keep :0)!  I hope it’s owners have as much fun styling it as I did… I took soooooo many pictures of it and had fun trying out different settings on my camera.

I know I haven’t been sharing much lately by way of projects on the go, it seems that time slips by so quickly anymore.  I really need to slow down and share more, after all… that’s the whole point of having this blog :0)!

I love being able to say “look what I did!” to you all!  Thank you for the visit and for taking the time out of your busy lives to stop and see what I’m up to!
