Bergere Beverage Bar

This cute little chest of drawers has served many purposes for our family over the last few years. Here it is seen in our entryway and housed extra mittens and scarves and hats.
It has also been in our laundry room and has been used to store empty hangers and orphaned socks.
As of late we have been using it in our dining area of the kitchen as a beverage bar. This works very nicely as a place to store the Keurig capsules and tea bags etc without cluttering up the counter tops in the kitchen.
I have been stuck in “bland” land so to speak lately and felt like maybe I should step out of the safe zone and do a piece in color that was my own. Usually all the color is done on pieces for someone else… now I’d like to try one for my own.
I decided to try out a new color from Miss Mustard Seed’s European colors paint line. I chose Bergere to try.
I decided not to use the bonding agent and just gave the piece a light sanding with hopes of a bit of chipping. I only needed to apply one coat of paint as it covered so nicely. About 1/2 hour into the drying time it started to flake and crack nicely. Not too much and in just the right places.
I sanded it smooth with 400 grit sandpaper and decided that I would finish it in Hemp Oil. It would be spending most of it’s time over a heat register in our dining room window and I didn’t want it to melt (if finished with wax) in the heat of the register or the sun through the window. I can always return and give it a coat of wax in the future if I change my mind and want a little shine.
For now I love it the way it is and I think it adds some much needed color to our dining area.
This color is very pretty and changes tone according to the lighting. Sometimes it looks like it has grey/blue tones and other times just a pretty blue.
Sorry for the dark pictures, it has been a little cloudy today…

Wow looks like an entirely different piece! So unassuming before and a show piece now! I want that too…

Thank you! I finally have a piece with color on it. I was a little nervous about it at first but now I’m okay with it. Sometimes it’s good to step out of the box :)

I think the placement of the piece here is just as important as the re-do. It was very pretty before, but looked small. Now it looks amazing. Great job.
