Antique Chippy Corner Hutch

12

May 18, 2015 by Terry

About seven years ago I was gifted this antique corner hutch.   It was one of my first “real” antiques and I was super excited to have it.

Over the years I have grown tired of how dark it looks and how it seems to blend in with with the other furniture.  I’d like it to stand out a bit more and get noticed for the lovely little cabinet it is.

DSCN5172 DSCN5170The door to the hutch has been removed in these before pics but it has a pretty ornate glass door.

Originally I had thought I would leave some of the original finish and taped off those parts I wanted to keep.  After the first coat of paint I decided it just looked awkward and didn’t compliment the style of the piece so I removed the tape and painted over those areas.

I envisioned this cabinet looking even older and worn than it already is.  I saw her with chipping paint and antiquing wax highlighting all her imperfections.

After two coats of milk paint, some sanding and a generous coat of antiquing wax … this is the result …corner hutch 3corner hutch 4corner hutchcorner hutch 2Just the right amount of chippy, and blended with the antiquing wax I think I have the “old” feel nailed :)

Everyone who sees it agrees that it looks much better now than before… I do too!

Hope you have a great week!  Sorry it has been so long since I’ve posted.  While I have been doing many makeovers, I haven’t been taking the time to share any of them.  Between work and baseball/softball season and Forest fire season … I haven’t had much time for blogging and photo sessions.

This coming week is filled with a few make overs that I am excited to share with you!  Thank you  faithful followers for hanging in there waiting patiently for my return!

It really is a sweet piece isn’t it? Unfortunately I didn’t find any sort of markings on it to be able to determine the date of it or who the maker was. I wish I did :) Thank you so much for stopping by and taking the time to comment! I hope you have a great day!
