The Beginning Of A Room Refresh

8

January 8, 2016 by Terry

Of course, with a New Year comes new ideas and a longing to start fresh!

Taking down the tree and doing a heavy clean has inspired some major changes in the way of a room refresh for both our living room and our dining room.

I wanted to update the look of the fireplace mantle and take it from frilly with a fancy framed mirror, to more of a simple industrial look. I removed all wall hangings and took everything off the mantle so I had a clean slate to work with.

The whole room has now been given a new look based solely on the look of this beautiful antique drill press that I had been keeping in the garage.  Almost a Restoration Hardware feel.

Originally I bought it with plans to clean it up and display it on an industrial pipe shelving unit … obviously that didn’t happen as I have yet to build it!  ha ha

I brought it in the house and scrubbed it down.  Then went over the whole piece with some hemp oil to bring out the richness of the iron and beat up wood.

I added in some old wood frames and screens behind it keeping it simple and sparse in order to make the drill press the focal point.

I love it even more now and it gives the room some visual interest!

Changing up the mantle led to an entire room makeover!

I’ll share more of that with you next time!

I hope you have a great weekend!

  1. Love it so much that if you get tired of it, I’ll gladly take it off your hands! And can I ask if you are happy with this Theme? I’m looking to switch and I like the way yours looks. Suggestions?? Thx friend!

Thank you so much! I will let you know if I do! Just a warning though … shipping might kill you as it weighs at least 100lbs !!! For Real! Yes, I really love this theme. It has a nice visual layout and is easy to navigate! I haven’t really taken the time to really “personalize” it but it’s not gnawing at me to do so either so it must be good! ha ha! My opinion is go for it! Hope that helps!
      Have a great weekend!

  2. It looks wonderful. Textures always get to me. The combination of the metal and wood evokes a industrial chic look.

Thank you so much! I know that to some it looks cold and bland but I love the simplicity of letting the eye focus on something simple! Thank you!
