Making Broken Beautiful | No. 21 … and a word from the heart

January 14, 2016 by Terry

Welcome to another week  of inspiration!

Before we get started with the features I wanted to share something that has been bothering me about this party for the last little bit.

There are readers out there who are also DIYers who don’t feel that the things they makeover or create are worthy of taking part in this party!!! (a little birdie told me so …)

I am very saddened by this.  The whole purpose of this party is for us to be able to share our wonderful works and be able to be excited about saying “look what I did!”

There are no rules about what caliber of project can grace this party.  I don’t want anyone EVER to feel like they aren’t good enough to share or to feel like their projects don’t measure up to others that link up.  My hope is that everyone that does link up will be visited by someone with an encouraging word or even forge a new friendship through this party.

If you were to visit my first project that I ever linked up you would see that I had a whole lot of growing to do too. My pictures were terrible and things were barely in frame, my painting technique and eye for what looks good also was weak.  While I have come along way and I still have much growing to do.  I have found most of my reasons to press on and keep getting better are because of others like you.  You all encourage me in so many ways to be better and grow.   We all need to start somewhere and it’s nice to have some encouragement along the way!

Do not ever compare your talent to someone else’s … we are all given different gifts and they are all good.  There are those of you who have a gifted hand for painting images or a gifted eye for styling a perfect bookcase or room … I would love to have those talents but that is not my gift.  I share what I have and enjoy looking at others in the areas I don’t.  Those are the people that inspire us.  Little do we know how much we inspire someone else.  There are some amazing ideas out there that no one has ever seen or heard of because they aren’t being shared!!!  It does not need to be some flashy professional looking picture or post either.

You are NEVER not good enough to share here.  You are always good.  You are always welcome!

I encourage you to come and share what makes your heart sing every week … I feel like every Thursday is Christmas morning and I wake up to all those awesome linky gifts!  Thank you for that!

If you can also make some new friends while you’re here (including me!) then I am even happier!

Okay!  Have I rambled enough?  Please don’t take that as a lecture either, I just want you to know that it’s okay to just BE and come as you are :)

WOW!

So last week Vanessa’s Modern Vintage Home shared her $3 clock makeover … yes, $3!!! can you believe it?  It turned out absolutely rich looking! You must go see what it looked like to begin with!  I like how she thinks!

Crystal from What Treasures Await shared her chalk painted side table.  I love that she used burlap to accent the drawers and create some texture.  Very tastefully done indeed!  I may have to use this idea someday.  I love the visual interest it creates with that added special something!

Just The Woods shared this beautiful lingerie chest and I just love the grey finish!  The beautiful details added to this certainly does make it stand apart from the others like it.  The insides of the drawers, the hardware, the choices of color … perfect!  Well done!  The styling of the photos are so pretty!

Q is for Quandie is giving me some serious Craigslist finds envy!!!  She finds the best pieces all the time!  There really is nothing she can’t work with … no damaged piece too far gone!  You must go see how she saved the top of this empire dresser using book pages!  Brilliant idea!  Talk about adding detail in repair!

Let’s get to inspiring now shall we?

Don’t forget to visit other links and show some support to your fellow linkers :)  Forge some new friendships this year!

Please remember to link back to this party when joining in :0)

Feel free to link up as many of your previous or present projects as you would like!  The more inspiration the better!

  6. Comparison to others truly is the thief of joy! Your words are spot on, Terry. Good for you for reaching out. It saddens my heart when I see comments from women that feel unworthy. It’s a giant lie. Everyone is worthy and even the pros have room to improve, too. Sometimes, it just might be the attitudes that need a bit of polishing. Just saying. ;-) I’m a call it like it is type of person and I keep her on a short leash… most days. But she comes on out when I read things about women feeling like they aren’t good enough. My pictures sucked back when I had my other blog in 08. Pictures are not always worth one thousand words. Besides, no one ever improved their craft without practice.

I read a quote or heard it in a movie… it basically said not to give up until you have practiced your craft at least 1,000 times. Now get to it ladies. ;-)

  14. It’s very easy for us to look at others, their work, and compare and doubt ourselves. Very well said! We all start somewhere. xx Kris

  15. Hi Terry, I don’t have a furniture piece to share this week but I just wanted to tell you how much I appreciated your opening paragraph – well said! Yup, comparing ourselves to others is a nasty joy breaker (I know because I just went through a spell of that myself). Your party is one of my favorites and I look forward to having a piece to share with you next week.

Bless your heart Marie! I went through a little of that myself in the beginning but decided that I was doing things that I liked for me and not for someone else. I decided that not everyone has the same taste and that it was OK for someone not to like what I did. I make things that make me happy and if someone else likes it then that too makes me happy ! I can’t wait to see what you have to share next week :-) Have a great weekend!
