Antique Fireplace Screen

January 18, 2016 by Terry

I love unique items!

When I saw this and realized what it was I just had to have it!  I had never seen one like this before …

fp1

Some of you may recognize this for what it is but for those of you who don’t, it is a fireplace screen.

How does it work?  Well, it unfolds into the most beautiful fanned out screen!

fp3

I have only dusted it so far with a damp cloth as I quite like the patina of it.  I don’t know how old it is exactly but I do know that it has beautiful detail.

fp2

I also like how it folds up to be something of an ornament when it isn’t in use.  When people see it they don’t realise that it is a fireplace screen.

fp3

I’m not sure if I will polish it up or not …

Anyways… I hope everyone enjoyed the weekend.  I had a surprisingly productive weekend painting and upholstering!  Now I just need to buckle down and take photos to share.  I still have photos to edit of the new dining room area as well which I promise (now I’m for sure accountable having said written it out loud) I will share this week!

Happy Monday!

Smiles!

Terry

  2. The fireplace screen is beautiful. When it was close I didn’t even realize what is was. Lovely patina on it, I think I would leave as is for now.

Oh goodness NO! I’m not planning to paint it, just give it a better polishing than what I had done with just a damp cloth before taking the pictures :) … Just wasn’t sure if I liked it a little dull or shiny. I hope you’re having a great week! Can’t wait to see what you’re up to next!

What a great find. I would just clean and hydrate it with hemp oil. Looks great as is.

I agree Mary! I think people have the wrong idea about what I said in the post… I would never paint it! I just need to polish it up better as I only went over it with a damp rag before taking photos … My bad though for not being clear :) I hope you have a great day!

  5. Woohoo! That is beautiful. I almost like it when it is not fanned out. Don’t do anything for a while, and let it inspire you. This is why my husband says we have too much furniture….psssht, is that even possible? And he says they need to think and speak up with inspiration at a much more rapid pace…Haha!

  7. Terry this is so beautiful and it looks like you found the perfect spot for it too! I’ve seen these in magazines but have never found one of these on the treasure trail. Great score! Hugs, CoCo
