The Ugly Brown Desk

40

March 14, 2016 by Terry

Quite sometime ago we received this ugly dated brown desk as a hand me down from my uncle.  It has been sitting in my eldest daughter’s bedroom patiently waiting for it’s turn to get pretty.  It has been the elephant in the room for a year now so it was time to get on it!

What finally inspired me to get on it was that I had purchased a new paint gun that I was dying to try out.  I sprayed this piece with leftover white and grey paint painting only the drawer fronts in white. The hardware was sprayed with silver metallic paint and then the entire piece sealed with varathane. (also sprayed on with the paint gun)

I applied vintage numbers to the front of each drawer using transfer gel.

I think it turned out rather fresh looking and my daughter is no longer complaining about “that ugly brown desk”!

With Spring just around the corner, I picked up some hyacinth bulbs at the market last weekend.  I placed them in this ceramic container with some wet moss for now but I do have other plans for them soon ;)  They are sooo pretty even without the blooms yet.

  1. This is an awesome transformation. It doesn’t look like the same desk. I bet your daughter loves it in her room now.

I have to be honest… if I wasn’t excited to try out the new spray gun it would probably still be sitting there looking homely. I’m pleased it turned out so cute and with very little hassle! Thank you for popping by! I hope you have a great week!

Awe thank you! You are sweet! It’s one of those projects I procrastinated on as it really isn’t my style and it wasn’t speaking to me at all! Now I’m happy to have given it a little ‘cute”! Thank you for popping in! I hope you have a great week!
