Rustic Entryway Coat Rack

A while back I posted about a coat rack I had made from the footboard of an antique bed.

After that sold I decided we still needed extra hooks at our front door so I whipped up another one out of reclaimed barn wood.  Completely different in look and feel for sure!

I went out to my wood stash and chose three pieces of beautiful grey wood. After joining the three pieces together from behind, I decided not to trim the ends but rather just leave them as is.  They were uneven, jagged and rough and looked rather neat that way.  I decided just to smooth everything our with a sander and remove any splinters or sharp ends. I added simple wire hooks so that it didn’t take away from the “art” that is the wood. It turned out so pretty and I love the colour variation of the naturally weathered wood.

These aren’t beautifully staged photos of it as I really didn’t have time due to the fact that I only photographed it on the way out the door to deliver it to it’s new home.  I know, I know, it’s like me and dining room tables all over again!  … I will build another for us at some point.

This nice rustic coat rack ended up being some lucky lady’s Mother’s Day gift.  I hope she enjoys it like I enjoyed creating it :)

Smiles!

  2. Always enjoy seeing your clever creations. If it were only as easy for me as it is for you, I would be awash in completed projects instead of redoing mine over and over. God might have shorted me in the DIY skills department, but gave me enough gumption to keep trying.
