This little dresser was found by the side of the road with a “free” sign on it. As My children and I were driving home from visiting my husband ( he works away sometimes) I spotted this pile of junk on the side of the road that had a “free” sign on it. I quickly put on the brakes and backed up to take a look. Of course my kids were all moaning and saying “no mom you’re soooo embarassing!!” I saw this ugly little 1960’s ish 3 drawer dresser and thought it was perfect for experimenting on since it was a freebie. So I had the gang help me load her up and away we went!
Of course I forgot to take before pictures of it … that sometimes happens when I get excited! It was brown venier on particle board with one skinny ugly little “V” shaped pull in the centre of each drawer.
I gave her a couple coats of light grey paint with a wash of black stain. I filled in the previous holes from the old drawer pulls with wood filler and gave her new round pulls. She also got a new set of chunky legs and a new top. For the top I scavenged outside under our deck and found some weathered left over fence boards from a fence fix we did. I brought them in the garage, cut them to size, cleaned them up with a wire brush and stained them with the same black stain as i used for a wash on the dresser. Finally I gave them 3 coats of high gloss varnish and attached them to the top with wood glue and rustic looking old nails….I think she turned out fabulous!
This little dresser went from vintage to rustic and I think she looks super cute! Of course I can’t keep everything I bring home so she went up for sale on a local free classified website…she sold within days of being listed! That is one of the rules my husband has for me …. “if you want to bring something home you need to get rid of something you already have first!” I guess that’s fair… we definitely do not have the room to keep everything I create…even if it is cute!
This little rescue went to live in a little boy”s room…. what a happy ending for a little dresser doomed for the dump!
Thanks for stopping by, I hope you come back soon!
