White Elegance!

2

November 20, 2013 by Terry

This chair was bought when we first moved into our house 5 years ago.  At that time I was into the “warm” tones for decorating.  The chair was quite expensive but it was a must have for me and at our house it is known as “Mom’s chair”.   As every person who decorates knows….NOTHING is forever….Our tastes evolve with time and things change frequently…this drives my husband crazy!  He says I make his blood pressure rise when I make comments about how “this” would look better like “that”!  When you have a creative mind you just have to get it out, am I right?  (keep in mind, our family room no longer looks like this)

So one time when my husband was away for the summer working I decided that this chair needed a change.  I was no longer into the dark, warm tones and was trying to lighten things up in our house.  First I completely stripped the chair down and took the frame outside and sprayed it in a high gloss white.  WOW!  This looked fabulous but it was not exactly the look I was wanting.  I decided to tone it down a bit by wiping a very light coat of stain over it letting it settle in the details of the wood for a bit of an antique look…..turned out just smashing!!

Now as I mentioned before the pictures posted were taken with my i-phone months before I started this blog so they are rather poor quality.  Sorry they are so dark!

This is the finished product… I used a large throw pillow for the back instead of the old boring one.  I did not have any trim to cover the raw edges of the material so I made my own out of Hemp Twine, I think it turned out well.  The pillow I made out of an old pillow case that had embroidery on it, an old bed sheet, and some left over material from upholstering the chair.

I tried out 2 different pillow for the back but I liked the first one above best.

I wish the pictures were lighter…

You can’t really tell but this chair is actually quite large, you can fit 2 people in it if you wanted to get cozy.  It has lived in almost every living space in our house, even the dining room at one point.

I loved this chair before, but I really love it now!  This one is most certainly a keeper!

She lives in my bedroom now in place of the wing back chair that I sold.

Have a great day and thank you for stopping by!
