1960’s Drab to Nautical Fab!!!!
8January 15, 2014 by Terry
This lovely brown veneer 1960’s ish 4 drawer dresser went from ugly and out dated to Nautical and classy!! I was inspired by a piece I had seen on the Joss & Main website…of course I cannot afford the original so I thought why not create the look myself. It is not exactly the same but it has the same “look”.
This is the before… I had given it a light sanding before painting.
Then I gave it 2 coats of white paint all over. After about 4 hours I taped it off with Frog tape to create multiple stripes. Then I painted over it with a coat of taupe paint. After removing the tape and giving it a little drying time I then distressed the stripes to soften them. I kept the original hardware but gave them a different look by wrapping them in hemp twine. The stripes and twine gave it a bit of a nautical feel…. Next I changed out the legs to class it up a bit. I love the way it turned out!
Please excuse the poor quality of these pictures…they were all taken quite sometime ago and with just my i-phone before I ever considered blogging. I will use a better camera when doing new projects so bear with these pics for now….
This dresser went to live in the front entryway of a new house to be used to keep the children’s mittens, scarves etc. It looks like it was custom for the design of the home even though it wasn’t. I had advertised it on a local classified add website again and it went right away as well. The lady who came to pick it up decided that it wasn’t the only piece she liked in my home that I had done and requested to “shop” my house….$1200.00 later she left!!! :) I will share her purchases with you at a later date.
Thanks for stopping by! Please leave a comment, I’d love to hear from you!
