Georgie’s Dresser
Leave a commentJuly 31, 2014 by Terry
I know at first glance this little 3 drawer dresser looks like wood but it’s not, it’s made entirely of metal! Sweet! I never knew that dressers were ever made of metal.
A tiny back story about the history of this dresser…
We have a friend named George. George is almost 90! He is a retired pilot who flew his entire life…oh the stories he has told!!!! George never married, he was a bachelor his whole life. In his retirement years he worked for a company called Buffalo Airways. (as seen in the reality show Ice Pilots) He became a fixture in the company..a permanent employee if you will and everyone absolutely loves Georgie.
Well to make a long story shorter, the day came when Georgie was no longer able to work or take care of himself and the decision was made to move him to a nursing home. This was a sad day for everyone, but Georgie is better off having moved. He moved to a home where he already had friends living there :0)
After his move, the room he used at the company’s housing was cleaned out and this little dresser was taken to the local dumping grounds!!! What??? Everyone thought it was junk and threw it out! Everyone also thought it was made of wood until they actually touched it… off to the trash it went! After hearing this had happened I asked if it could please be picked out of the trash and brought home to me. How neat is it that it is made entirely of metal!
The current status of Georgie’s dresser…
After taking off the hardware, scrubbing the whole thing down, sanding out the rusty spots, painting the whole unit and changing the color of the knobs… this is how it looks now…
Looking nice and fresh in Aqua and white! I saved the manufacturer’s logo and date on the back… 1962!!!
I think it is funny how the logo has the word “lite” in it as this little cutie is super heavy! I can’t believe it was almost left to rust in the dump! I didn’t get a chance to stage it nicely … sorry!
I thought I might paint up a vintage suitcase to match when I ran out of paint…the bottom is still white in this photo… Oh well, it would’ve been cute…
It is no longer this color as I couldn’t get the matching paint color again to finish it off…sold out of Aqua!!! You’ll see it in another post in it’s new color!
Loving the new look! This little dresser went from old and tired to fresh and energized!
Hope you have a great day!
Smiles!
Terry
