So I was sure I had taken before pictures of this beautiful old cabinet but I am unable to find them now :0(

This cabinet is at least 100 years old or older.  It has so much charm and you can feel the history attached to it.

A good friend of mine asked if I would please help fix it up it so she could use it in her newly renovated kitchen.  It has been in the family for generations and now it will be hung on the wall and used once again!

When it came to me it was in need of a good cleaning as it had been stored outside and the bugs and flies had pooped all over it etc.  The body and bones of it was raw wood, the shelves had a sloppy coat of paint on them and the doors had been oiled at one time.

I cleaned it up and gave it a good scrubbing inside and out.  I mixed up some MMS Milk Paint in Typewriter and went to work.  I decided to leave the doors and the top of this piece natural wood for contrast. After painting and sanding the outside I gave it a generous coat of hemp oil.  This was a very thirsty old piece and drank almost 1/2 of my large bottle of oil!

On the inside of the cabinet I chose to use Fusion Mineral Paint in the color Champlain.  This is a very durable paint with the top coat built into it so there was no need to seal it.  This needs to be durable if it is going to be used everyday.  I found this paint very easy to work with and it saved me at least 3 steps in completing this cabinet!

I had purchased these antique Homeopathic Remedy jars a while ago.  They are so neat and I thought they would be great for decorating my medicine chest in our bathroom.  They even had the original contents still in them!  Of course I disposed of the contents properly before displaying them.  I wouldn’t want some small houseguest getting into them and getting seriously ill.

They make for great props too!

I wish I had been able to take pictures of it off the floor but it was too large and heavy for me to handle alone.

It is beautiful!  I was told that it was handmade by a family member which makes it even more special!

And as usual … it was hard not to get attached and want to keep it!

I can’t wait to see it put up on the wall!
