A Simple Makeover

June 17, 2016 by Terry

Sometimes I come across pieces that are in beautiful condition but could still use a ‘little something’ to update it or really bring out it’s beauty.

This chair is one of those pieces.  The upholstery was in beautiful condition with little to no wear on it.  I had been considering changing the upholstery on it ONLY because it was pink, and pink didn’t really go with my decor.

… as you can see it is in pristine condition.  I can’t really justify ripping it apart now can I?

So I decided to ‘sit’ on the decision (no pun intended!) of what I was going to do with it for a little longer.

Then a week or so ago I was approached about taking part in a bridal photoshoot to be submitted to a magazine.  I was asked to contribute some of my furniture pieces to be used in the shoot.  This chair popped into my mind and right away I knew it would be perfect all glammed up with gold details.

I decided to gold leaf all the wood on it and soon realized that gold leafing anything is NOT my gift, nor did I have the patience to do it!  But from the parts I did do, it made the chair look stunning!  I decided to opt out for liquid leafing it instead and in hindsight wish I would have saved myself the time and money by just going that route to begin with.

True gold leaf was stunning but this looked beautiful as well.

I love the way the gold reflects the colour of the chair’s upholstery!  Doesn’t it just drip with romance now?  Perfect for a bridal photo shoot!

I am loving this chair now  …  but sadly it still doesn’t fit in my home.

So as you can see, you don’t have to take drastic measures like completely ripping a chair apart to give it a new and dramatic look.  It can be as simple as updating the frame with paint and the colour you choose will decide how dramatic the change will be!

Do you have any pieces that might just need a little paint to make a big change?

  3. Oh wow Terry, I can’t believe how much the liquid leaf compliments the original fabric and makes the chair look very current and expensive. I can’t wait to see some photos of the wedding shoot. Sounds like it went well. Enjoy your weekend! xo

  4. What a great vision you had updating this chair with gold. It now shines rather than hides in the corner. Beautiful!

Thank you Deb! Sometimes we overcomplicate things when the answer can be so simple. I usually feel like I need to do major work on something in order to make over a piece …. obviously now I’ve learned that is not the case ;) I hope you have a great week!
