To Part With OR Not To Part With …

September 13, 2014 by Terry

This past week it seems I have had a bit better luck when it comes to thrift shopping.  Lately I have felt like I was going through a bit of a “dry” spell…  Well that has changed and I thought I’d share a few of my finds with you.

I’m struggling with whether or not to enjoy a few of my finds at home for a while or if I should sell them in my booth.  Of course most items I purchase are intended to go into my booth but some I just look so darned good in my home!  If I keep them then I might not make rent, but if I sell them then I might regret it… Hmmmmmm…

Here are a few of my latest finds…

This is a lovely Tureen I found for only $5.00!  A few days later I found the matching Platter to go with it for $1.00!  I love their simple but elegant look…

IMG_3327IMG_3330It looks lovely right now on my Antique sewing machine…

Next up is this sweet little pitcher and the pretty antique silverware inside it!  I love the dainty little sugar spoons!  They are soooo pretty just as they are in this little jug sitting on my counter….IMG_3342The cake plate they are sitting on is also another sweet find… only a few cents believe it or not!

IMG_3343 IMG_3345A set of eight coffee cups in grey and white and trimmed with white gold… $.50 ea.

IMG_3341Moving on… today I was going to pick up a chair I found on Kijiji for a total steal when I happened upon the best yard sale I have been to all year!!!  This sale was really meant for a man’s man but the antique tools and tool boxes were in abundance!!!!  I was in heaven!!  I came home with two antique tool caddys and one large antique carpenter’s tool box!

I used one tool caddy on my front step with a plant in it and the other I placed on my primitive desk…

Notice my latest antique funnel I turned into a lamp over the desk.  I sold the smaller one with the mini chandelier in it a couple weeks ago.  This one is much larger and I used a heavy rusty farm chain to hang it.  I just used an IKEA light kit with a regular bulb for now.  I would like to get an Edison light bulb for it to make it look better…

IMG_3353  This is the carpenter’s tool chest, I really like the unique shape and look of this wooden box.  It even has a little vintage green/blue paint on top…

IMG_3338IMG_3331 IMG_3332The front folds down to reveal 2 compartments and some cups on the side…

IMG_3336 IMG_3333 IMG_3340Next I found this antique door and I think I will try a little Milk paint on it…

IMG_3358I picked up this chair today for a steal!… I had one exactly like it that I reupholstered in drop cloth…beautiful finish!  I plan to do something different with this one…

IMG_3365I was also lucky enough to find 4 industrial metal castors for $1.00 each which I plan to put on this really big square crate I have just waiting to be a coffee table!

IMG_3364And lastly, this old cupboard/hutch was mistreated by someone who gave it an incredibly sloppy coat of red glaze…. ewweee!  Drips!  Bad paint job…really bad.  It was doomed for the garbage by it’s owner who has asked me to do some custom pieces for her.  She wanted it gone but I told her we could make it into something pretty again.  Stay tuned for that incredible change!

IMG_3361 IMG_3363

IMG_3360Whew!  That was a lot of shopping!  I guess I’ll be in the garage for sure for the next while.  I have been a bit under the weather with a head cold but things are clearing up and I’m back in the mood for creativity again.

Hope you have a great week.  I’ll try to share some projects soon.

Smiles!

Terry

  1. Why can’t you enjoy the things you love for awhile and sell them as you get closer to rent day? :) You find the coolest things and you bring out the beauty so quickly. I still think you don’t really sleep…ever.

    • I love your comments! You are so nice! I do have a few items I keep until I need a change again, and some I fall in love with and keep longer. I don’t think I sleep sometimes either! My mind doesn’t like to turn off at night … too many ideas :)
      Have a great day!

  2. I always go by William Morris’s rule of not having anything in the home that you don’t believe to be beautiful or know to be useful… Looks like most of these tick both boxes – keepers!

    • Thank you Delia! I love funnel lamps or anything with a primitive/industrial look to it! Thanks for the visit, I’m glad to see you’re back in blogging action again! I love your pieces!

The other day I let my daughter drive us home after being away. I was absolutely exhausted from life in general. This was the view from my passenger window... a beautiful reminder to slow down and listen to God’s whispers... He’s got this. #listentothewhispers #godsgotthis #bestillandknow #thatstillsmallvoice #heismystrength

... and she doesn’t think she’s pretty! ??? So proud of this girl! Baby number two is graduating from high school this coming Saturday… Where has the time gone? She has definitely been our “wild card” from the very beginning! So full of energy and always ready to help wherever it is needed. She is ambitious and fun and has an amazing heart! We know she will be successful in anything she does. Happy Monday friends! I know I haven’t posted anything for quite some time but as I sit here this evening I feel it’s time to share a bit more of what has been happening for the last few months. Most of you don’t know this but for the last 11 months I have been slowly learning the technical side of my family’s business. For the past 43 years my parents have invested their blood sweat and tears making our family business such a huge success. (@globefootwearltd ) I am privileged and honoured to be able to carry that on for them. 11 months ago I took a leap of faith and left everything I was comfortable with to come and carry on our family heritage. Our children were brave enough to leave their friends and their school in order to support their mom in keeping the family heritage alive. Today I am proud to say that while I still have much to learn, I am happy that we took that leap. It truly is an amazing journey and a hard (at times challenging) one at that… But with God’s grace and strength we will carry through for continued success! God is good! I’m still loving furniture makeovers and when I can, I still enjoy DIY and sharing what I make… But for now… I have to take a step back from that part of my life and focus on what is before me. I hope you will stay, and follow along in my journey. We have a new home where we are and are wanting to put our style mark on it… I know there are a few stencilling projects in our future ;-) I will share more with you soon. You can follow along on my business journey too at @globefootwearltd ❤️😊 #newlife #newfriends #newbusiness #newadventures #shoestore #familybusiness #heritage #myheritage #godisgood #strengh #godsgrace #globefootwearltd
