To Part With OR Not To Part With …
6September 13, 2014 by Terry
This past week it seems I have had a bit better luck when it comes to thrift shopping. Lately I have felt like I was going through a bit of a “dry” spell… Well that has changed and I thought I’d share a few of my finds with you.
I’m struggling with whether or not to enjoy a few of my finds at home for a while or if I should sell them in my booth. Of course most items I purchase are intended to go into my booth but some I just look so darned good in my home! If I keep them then I might not make rent, but if I sell them then I might regret it… Hmmmmmm…
Here are a few of my latest finds…
This is a lovely Tureen I found for only $5.00! A few days later I found the matching Platter to go with it for $1.00! I love their simple but elegant look…
It looks lovely right now on my Antique sewing machine…
Next up is this sweet little pitcher and the pretty antique silverware inside it! I love the dainty little sugar spoons! They are soooo pretty just as they are in this little jug sitting on my counter….The cake plate they are sitting on is also another sweet find… only a few cents believe it or not!
A set of eight coffee cups in grey and white and trimmed with white gold… $.50 ea.
Moving on… today I was going to pick up a chair I found on Kijiji for a total steal when I happened upon the best yard sale I have been to all year!!! This sale was really meant for a man’s man but the antique tools and tool boxes were in abundance!!!! I was in heaven!! I came home with two antique tool caddys and one large antique carpenter’s tool box!
I used one tool caddy on my front step with a plant in it and the other I placed on my primitive desk…
Notice my latest antique funnel I turned into a lamp over the desk. I sold the smaller one with the mini chandelier in it a couple weeks ago. This one is much larger and I used a heavy rusty farm chain to hang it. I just used an IKEA light kit with a regular bulb for now. I would like to get an Edison light bulb for it to make it look better…
This is the carpenter’s tool chest, I really like the unique shape and look of this wooden box. It even has a little vintage green/blue paint on top…
The front folds down to reveal 2 compartments and some cups on the side…
Next I found this antique door and I think I will try a little Milk paint on it…
I picked up this chair today for a steal!… I had one exactly like it that I reupholstered in drop cloth…beautiful finish! I plan to do something different with this one…
I was also lucky enough to find 4 industrial metal castors for $1.00 each which I plan to put on this really big square crate I have just waiting to be a coffee table!
And lastly, this old cupboard/hutch was mistreated by someone who gave it an incredibly sloppy coat of red glaze…. ewweee! Drips! Bad paint job…really bad. It was doomed for the garbage by it’s owner who has asked me to do some custom pieces for her. She wanted it gone but I told her we could make it into something pretty again. Stay tuned for that incredible change!
Whew! That was a lot of shopping! I guess I’ll be in the garage for sure for the next while. I have been a bit under the weather with a head cold but things are clearing up and I’m back in the mood for creativity again.
Hope you have a great week. I’ll try to share some projects soon.

Why can’t you enjoy the things you love for awhile and sell them as you get closer to rent day? :) You find the coolest things and you bring out the beauty so quickly. I still think you don’t really sleep…ever.

I love your comments! You are so nice! I do have a few items I keep until I need a change again, and some I fall in love with and keep longer. I don’t think I sleep sometimes either! My mind doesn’t like to turn off at night … too many ideas :)
Have a great day!

I always go by William Morris’s rule of not having anything in the home that you don’t believe to be beautiful or know to be useful… Looks like most of these tick both boxes – keepers!

Hey! Thank you for the visit! What great advice, I think that is very true! I definitely might have seller’s remorse on a few of these items.
Thank you!
