One House … Five Levels | Level One
6October 13, 2014 by Terry
So we have listed our home for sale! Yeay! It’s official … we are moving!
I realized that while some of my posts show parts of my home, I have never done a tour. Today I will share with you the first level of our five level split home.
Lets start with our large entryway… I love that there is room for all 7 of us to come in and not be on top of each other. It is also bright and welcoming! (I hope I don’t talk myself out of moving by reminding myself why we liked this house! lol! ) We put up hooks for the kid’s coats and backpacks which really keeps the clutter organized and off the floor.
My boys built the birdhouses on a field trip we took once with the school to a bird farm and I haven’t had the heart to put them outside yet as we knew this wasn’t our “forever” home… they look okay in our front entryway for now :0) …
I use the above area quite often to do photo shoots of projects, it has a nice blank wall and neutral flooring.
Next we move straight through to the first of 4 family rooms (yes, 4!! Who needs 4 family rooms????) This family room has a fireplace converted from wood burning to gas.
This is the room at Christmas last year… and then today… I have been so busy with my furniture makeovers that I haven’t taken the time to style this room … but it’s clean :0)
Take note of the sofa I took apart but haven’t put back together yet. Those are the cushions off of our patio furniture on it! lol! …Someday!
Sorry, the next pic is out of focus… amateur photographer! :0) The room from another angle…
Next we move to the main floor bathroom… this room used to be a very bold red color. Not a dark red but an orange red. I do not have any before photos of it but I wish I did as it is as it is a very dramatic change. We painted and added the wainscotting … wow what a difference it has made! New and bright looking!
Next we move into the laundry room area…
As I am constantly doing laundry for seven people, it really adds up on the amount of laundry I am doing. Having two sets of washers and dryers REALLY makes a difference in the work load. When we moved from our country home to our home now, we tried it out for a while only having the one set and oh my what a difference! Two is definitely better than one! Time is valuable and two sets cuts down my laundry time by half, plus, I only have to do laundry once a week because of that giving me much more time for other things! (like furniture restoration and painting!)
The little 2 drawer chest holds pants and shirt hangers as well as stray socks. The mirror is just an extra that actually doesn’t go there, it is waiting for a makeover :0)
There are also 2 retractable clothes lines for those items that need to air dry. It also holds the items that hang up until I put them in the kid’s closets.
I love my roomy laundry room/mud room! (the back door is on the left as well as hooks for coats etc and a place to sit to put on/off your shoes)
This is the view of the other end of the room and that door leads out to the double car garage. The white “dresser” is actually shoe storage and the drawers fold open to hold shoes and boots. this is a great idea as it looks like furniture but is actually storage. We got this at IKEA for a very reasonable price. (Under $150.00 cdn)
So… that is the first of 5 levels of our home. It is not designer by any means but it is comfortable for us. Stay tuned for the next 4!

Love the entry way foyer. I would love to have a laundry / mud room like that! Mine is half that size, if that and I dislike cleaning it (there, I finally admit it). You’ll look back on these pictures, smile and get inspiration for your new home.

Hi Manja! :0) Are you meaning what are they made of? They are wood planks that I got Trent to put up for me and then I painted them. There are also 2 retractable laundry lines on that view of the wall as well so I wasn’t sure if you meant that??…They kinda blend into the picture :0)
